As a mother of a five-year-old boy and an 18-month-old daughter, I am a seasoned veteran of possible childcare options. From daycares and in-home daycares to nannies and babysitters, we have dabbled in all of them.
When returning back to work after the birth of my son I toured a few daycare centers and distinctly remember cringing when I was shown the infant and toddler rooms. For different reasons, in-home daycares left me feeling uneasy. We were living in the Midwest at the time and were convinced there had to be a better option. I began to research the idea of a nanny share and ultimately knew it was what I wanted. I reached out to parents that had formed shares, read all their contracts, asked candid questions, and set out to make it happen.
Four years later I’ve had three successful nanny shares — the first family we lost when they relocated but we found a second family (same nanny) until we ultimately moved back to Denver. We’ve since formed a third nanny share for our daughter and it just feels right! Our nanny shares have been formed and proven successful with a couple that was a complete stranger, an acquaintance, and now my very best friend. I learned quickly in our shares how important it is to find not only a compatible match but also to lay the proper groundwork for the share — a comprehensive agreement, a fair and reasonable approach, and a sense of professionalism.
My inspiration to create Care Share Connection came after being asked by multiple friends and colleagues to coach them through setting up a nanny share. The opportunity to participate in a nanny share is not an obvious option for most parents, yet if it is done well it can be an amazing option for you and your family.
